The greatest Disaster movie was TOWERING INFERNO which starred Paul Newman, Steve McQueen, Robert Vaughn and Richard Chamberlain. The greatest Western was arguably THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN which starred Steve McQueen, Yul Bryner, Charles Bronson and Robert Vaughn. Richard Chamberlain starred in Dr Kildare which set record TV ratings in the US in the 1960s and THE THORNBIRDS which set global record TV ratings in the 1980s.
Robert Vaughn starred in BULLITT with Steve McQueen and THE BRIDGE OVER REMAGEN.
Oscar winning Richard Dreyfuss starred in JAWS, CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND and STAKEOUT.
What do Richard Dreyfuss, Richard Chamberlain and Robert Vaughn have in common ?
They all think Birmingham in the Heart of England is a fantastic city.
Dreyfuss chose to direct Hamlet on the theatre here. Chamberlain chose to live here at the height of his TV heart throb fame while he worked at Birmingham Repertory Theatre. Robert Vaughn has lived and worked here for much of the last three months.
Vaugh says: “Birmingham is a sophisticated, magnificent Western City. It has superb shops and restaurants”.
Richard Chamberlain, who incidentally was the first person to play Jason Bourne in The Bourne Identity for US TV in 1988, said: “Birmingham was one of the best times of my life”.
If Michael Grade and Ivan Dunleavy actually looked at what Birmingham has to offer, they might just scrap the increasingly costly and ill fated expansion on greenbelt land in South Buckinghamshire.
