Eszterhas (whose best work is still ‘Jagged Edge’ ) can write even better letters than screenplays. Twenty-one years ago he famously wrote a fax to Michael Ovitz the Head of CAA (creative Artists Agency), then the most powerful man in Hollywood. It was the talk of the town and indeed via The BBC six part series ‘Naked Hollywood’ it went global.

The exchange of emails – in which Ovitz brilliantly played his chess moves but was outplayed by an even better chess player in a one-off game – was dynamic poetry.

Eszterhas’ accusations and allegations were met by Ovitz who played the genius gem of saying ‘This is obviously one of those Rashomon situations’ . This refers to a Japanese film which shows four people can see the same factual event very differently and the truth is hard to identify.

Eszterhas countered magnificently with the checkmate ‘You can quote Rashomon all you want. But saying ***********************************leaves little room for ambiguity’.

Joe Eszterhas has now gone head to head with Mel Gibson.  It is always well worth studying, let alone reading, Eszterhas’ letters.

Eszterhas and Gibson spent time together because Gibson wants to make a movie based on Judas Maccabees. It is a very clear BRAVEHEART meets JEWISH SPARTACUS FREEDOM FIGHTER (two generations  before Spartacus).

You can see the box office appeal because Gibson can direct BRAVEHEART, THE PATRIOT and APOCOLYPTO with panache and verve. He can make big box office money (The Passion made over $700 million on a $25 million budget).

Given the richness of the core history and now the huge pre-publicity, it is  high time someone, anyone, made a film or TV series based on The Book of Maccabbees which gives the history of Israel between the end of The Old Testament and the beginning of The New Testament (Matthew’s Gospel).

In Matthew 24 Jesus Christ refers to The Abomination of Desolation defiling the Temple of Jerusalem and underlines that an event (with an Assyrian ruler mocking and defiling the Temple in Jerusalem) which triggered the Jewish freedom fighter Judas Maccabbees  to rise up against him, will be repeated in the final years before His Return to earth as military rescuer of Israel on the point of destruction as the AntiChrist armies gathere at Armageddon.

It would be fascinating to see a movie about this.

Mel Gibson is a fine actor, a talented director, but his heart and mind are badly screwed up. Talented people can produce great good and great evil. Please pray for this man. He is a sorry mess.

He has never learned that Genesis 12 verse 3 still applies. ‘I will bless those who bless you. I will curse those who curse you’. It is always wise to bless the Jewish children of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob (renamed Israel) and Israel’s twelve sons. always.

Gibson’s professional and personal fall from grace (and apparently happiness) is entirely because he fails to get the fact God sticks to His Word and does not compromise.

Pray that Mel Gibson sincerely repents….for his own sake.
