Please Support The Police Federation March On Thursday May 10 And Oh Yes ‘The Avengers’ is set to break $800 million At The Global Box-office by the weekend.

Please support the Police Federation of England and Wales march in Central London on Thursday May 10.

We do not oppose all public spending cuts, indeed we encourage cuts in the film and arts quangos and their bureaucracies (which shore up corrupt croneyism and limit access of most people in the UK to enter the film industry) and we only approve of public spending (especially ring fenced Lottery Money) on physical infrastructure in film making (sound stages, sets, essential equipment) in every region of the UK . The film industry and most arts -if the physical infrastructure is there- will generate and magnetise inward investment and private patronage either seeking profit or kudos/glory.

However, vital public services should be fully financed by the public purse. The police are top of the list. Their budget and manpower should be increased in 2012 and not reduced by 20%.

Maybe 20% of police officers -off duty and able to get to Central London before they are back on duty – will be there. But it is the media battle which will be decisive in pressurising a bunch of inept politicians to do the right thing.

Police budgets and police numbers should be increased and not decreased.

Police keep people safe. The only people who want police cuts are criminals.

The fire fighters, doctors, nurses, ambulance staff, disabled care workers should not be cut. They are real public services.

Huge quango bureaucracies in many fields including the film quangos can be cut and will indeed release the talent/enterprise/creativity they are (sometimes unintentionally) suppressing.

The Hollywood film industry model of getting private sector investment and making movies people will pay to see, marketing/publicising them extremely well (selling the sizzle, not the steak), and reinvesting the profits has been achieved without film quango bureaucracies steering public funds in the wrong direction. If the US film industry had had UK type quangos a hundred years ago, it would have used all the public monies to stop Hollywood setting up as a rival to the East Coast film making monopoly cartel. This is what happens now in the UK. We are stopping our Hollywoods set up on vast cheap ex-industrial lans because the quango members love to dine in West London restaurants.

The Avengers movie has just breezed through $200 million in its opening weekend in the USA and is now nearly at $500 million outside the US at the cinema box office. It may break $1 billion by the weekend but if not, it will get there by the weekend after.

The film and art industries can survive and flourish without public money, but the police need it.

The reason this government is so dim about the police is that West London and Central London have such outstanding manpower (including massive military power) in Buckingham Palace, the Royal Parks, Whitehall and Westminster. Government ministers have tremendous police protection. Some ex-ministers have six police officers for life to protect them.

The Olympics will suck in police resources from across the UK to protect the prestige of London.

This type of protection we do not despise. But we want it for everybody.

A safe society will see businesses flourish.

A frightened society will become cruel and poor.

So please pray for and support the police on May 10. Lobby MPs, write letters, get on radio phone ins, phone up local and national AND international newspapers and TV companies. Get the US press interested. Get the French and German press. Get RTV News interested. This Government hates to be shamed in international media because they see the government jobs as part of their social life. They hate to be ridiculed and embarassed at parties. The Government can back down on police cuts with a big concerted push.
